Need help creating a game for a school project.

Hey guys so my school is entering a competition and we need to create a game based on internet safety. We have a lot of good ideas and i want to know if using unity to create game like the “Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis” is good.Appreciate it if you help me.

Here is walk through of the game :

Imho something like “Fate of Atlantis” is entirely outside the scope of a school project. You’ll be vastly underestimating how much work such a game is, because every beginner underestimates that.

Unity could be used for something like that. There is probably some adventure framework on the Assetstore that could give you a jumpstart. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if something like this is a lot easier to use for beginners:

I have no personal experience with it though.

Unity can do it easily. The real question is is your team up to it?

We have the option between unreal and unity and we are thinking with unity thats why

we are up to the challenge even though we are a high school with not a lot of knowledge but we will make it

Lol. If I had a dime for every time we hear that in the forums. Do yourself a favour and scope smaller. Much smaller.

How much time do you have for your project?

A 2D game like that? You’ll probably have an easier time with Game Maker or something instead of Unity or Unreal. If you have to pick between those 2, I’d choose Unity.

But you really should make a very, very small scene in both Unity and Unreal and see which you like better. Don’t worry about good art, just make a basic interface where the player can click to walk around, and click on things to look at them and interact with them. Make just a couple things in the scene. Super, super simple.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll know which engine you like better, and you’ll have a better idea of how hard this is going to be.

An engine made specifically for adventure games - like Adventure Game Studio - would be even easier.

If you have to choose between Unity and Unreal then there is an asset for Unity to assist with adventure games.

Of course before you buy assets you’ll want to try learning the engine to know if you can even handle it to begin with.
