After looking around a lot, I randomly decided to go with Shade 3D by myre. I don’t really want to use blender, so if anyone can suggest something noob friendly (like 3D canvas but with more export / animation options), I’d appreciate it. I have another issue though which is what makes this thread different from the numerous other ones about what 3D software to use:
I registered and ordered Shader 3D for unity, for $0.00, yet I’ve been queued for over 6 hours. Why did I have to go through such a process to acquire ‘free’ software? If I had paid, would I be subject to such a long queue?
If anyone else has shade 3D and could let me know, that would be great!
Shade 3D for Unity is free, but its licensed to you. All orders get reviewed to make sure people get what they actually want. For example, when 3D models get ordered, users have to select from five different formats:
3D Studio MAX
Poser / DAZ Studio
Shade 3D (native format)
Vue (native format)
Bryce (native format)
We include the .3DS versions of models with all of the above.
Maybe 1 in 10 orders, someone orders the wrong format, or selects Mac OS instead of Windows for an application. People hate to pay twice for something they want, but once they have the content in their hands their orders are final.
I ordered the free Shade 3D for Unity on Saturday and got the download link and key this morning. I tried to find tutorials on using Shade 3D to create 3D models for Unity but I can’t find them. Are there tutorials on using Shade 3D to create 3D models for Unity?
That’s an even more significant necro than mine and yes. Blender is free, open source and was more readily available. It’s got a lot of plugins and tools made by the community and it’s also got sculpting, projection painting, good UV tools, etc.
It’s a nice all in 1 tool for unity since you can also do rigging and animation.
I am new with everything, Unity, 3D modeling, never used any 3D tools. I spent a few days with both Shade and Blender since my post. My personal impression is that at least for a newcomer, Shade is SO MUCH BETTER. I was literally angry after Blender use, because it relies heavily on shortcuts that you have nearly zero way to figure out yourself. And if you forgot shortcut, good luck trying to remember in which long video tutorial on wich minute they mentioned it. Shade is simpler and nearly everything can be understood by clicking things, and hovering over them. No need for shortcuts at all (yet you can setup and use them quite nicely). Despite of the fact that I used it first (again, new for 3D modeling) it allowed me to create my first models much faster than in Blender. And after all my struggle, while my model was looking fine in Blender, it looked teared in Unity. So I gave up on Blender.
Yes, I understand, that if you want something to do really 3D (with lots of different materials and rendering), you can do it for free in Blender, while you have to buy some version of Shade 3D. But for Unity? It seems (from my short experience) Shade is sufficient and also free.
