I need help from someone. I need someone to give me a goal for a game, then give me feed back. The reason is, when i start making a game, about halfway through, i’m bored and done making the game. BUT i;m really competitive, so if someone gives me a challenge i will try to do it. Now, i need you to tell me if my current game is any good, or if i should go for a diff. Game.

Hey Cowman, this might not be the answer you are looking for, but everybody at some point has trouble with motivation and inspiration. Look to your surroundings for both. Just be glad we live in a pretty awesome time where someone isn’t whipping you to build a pyramid or go down in to a coal mine or something. My grandfather died as a treefarmer after leaving Holland WW2. Whenever I am feeling uninspired and not motivated about life and making games I think of my grandparents leaving Veenendal and coming to Canada on a boat…
Hey, there is a good idea for a game!
Cal
Hey Bryan, also I get bored every day at some point.
The trick is to give yourself another goal to reach, a better model in example, or cut off more “useless” polygons, add some objects to the scene so that it will be even better looking/playing, change some texture so it looks even better, smooth some animation, add some element of gameplay so the game will be even more compelling… and so on.
In example this night I just added a radio to my game, it’s a great idea because now the soundtrack plays from the radio so you have volume varying based on distance from it. Nothing too new, sure, but still this idea came now and not before… and now I’m finishing with the texture to make it look real (for how it’s possible on iPhone).
About your game, let’s call it FartJetpack, that’s fun as a base.
Some ideas came to my mind immediately:
- add peas and/or onion to have farts thrust more and proceed.
- plants will grow if the player ate them all and can’t proceed, but then time will pass.
- link the gems to a score system.
- put different types of gems and some more difficult to reach will have more value.
- make it nicer, put details, nice grass, flowers, retouch the colours so they are more appealing (you will also learn better modeling and texturing in the process and learning is never boring!).
- of course build up a nice main character
- test your game so you ENJOY to play it! THAT’S THE FINAL TEST! If you LOVE it, other people will love it too.
Hey that can be a quite interesting iPhone game!
And add enemies. I want to make a whole variety of enemies that fit in with the game style, but i’m coming up blank. Any ideas on enemies? And what do you mean by “Plants grow”?? Thanks.
That was actually GREAT advice, Thanks! And yea, i’m going to start doing exactly that. Also, how do you think the actual game plays? would it be good for an iphone game?
Well, if you put a limited amount of onion and peas around, and the player eats them all and uses all the “fartfuel” and finds himself stuck because in example there is a tall slope that he can’t overcome, you can make some plants grow slowly around so after they are mature the player can eat some more onion and have fuel to proceed.
About enemies, it could be an alien planet where these things are totally real and common, in example so there’s no limit on how an alien can look: just try to draw it!
