Need ideas for Horror game environment

The story isn’t important, I just need ideas for underground environments (like a sewer)
The environment also has to span for a long ways (So a basement wouldn’t cut it)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Not to state the obvious here but… how about… a sewer?

An abandoned subway, a sewer, a mine, or some kind of abandoned bunker would all work. Many escape and shelter tunnels were made during the American Civil War, WWII, and many other wars and are now abandoned.

I find it fascinating that someone approaches a storytelling medium with “the story isn’t important”.

I was planning on forming the story around the environment, as a story in a sewer wouldn’t be the same as a story in a bunker. Thank you rab236 for all the ideas!

Subway tunnels leading to ancient parts of the city long sealed off, with ancient buried ruins of a past civilization. That sort of fluff. You could branch out to setting it in NY after hurricane sandy, the floods broke down walls which lead to secret tunnels from back when new york was being made… made over the sacred native indian burial sites, all that jazz.

Dear god hippocoder… that’s brilliant!
I’m starting to get some sweet ideas now!
Thanks for the help! It means a lot.

Hmm, how about catacombs beneath the pyramids? Lots of stuff to play with in ancient egyptian mythology. (or Aztec… or Chinese… lots of pyramids)

EDIT: Does it have to be underground? Could be glass tunnels on an alien planet. Would be interesting to see the enemy, but never be sure of when and where they could get in.

A mine would be good.

Dirty rooms, paper on the floor, objects such as old bed, old chair, all messy, like a hurricane came thru.
Also if you watch some silent hill/resident evil youtube movies you will feel the vibe.

And not less important great zombies take it here http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/158002-high-quality-Zombie-Rigged-Animated-(-animation-source)

One thing is to have the really scary stuff happen in a normal house… this makes people relate and then there lying in bed shitting themselves… when if its on the EventHorizon or what ever people are not as scared as it doesen’t relate to them(Well still scared but not as much)

<— That is what I think anyway.

For me, it’s hard to get more creepy than an old mansion. Smaller houses are too easy to keep track of where things are, and other locations just don’t have that sense of … I dunno. Of being some place that you care about. Even someone else’s home feels more personal than a mall, mine, or sewer.

Houses also tend to have a lot of blind corners, where public places have wide-open areas that make it easy to see what’s nearby.

Put a Slender Man in it

*ducks

hahahah lol just saw a post of people that are hating about slender kind of game… hahaha sorry couldn’t resist to laugh about it

How about a place full of people, but the player keeps ‘hallucinating’, seeing weird things as he/she moves through the crowd?

Here is a video from some studios near where I live. They document abandoned buildings all over the United States. The full film is much better than the trailer. It may give you some ideas, though.
