New 3d sensor

Hi everyone

As part of a university project, I am currently working with a 3D sensor that has the following characteristics:

  1. The technology is capable to generate 3D models
    – of its surrounding space (range up to 10m)
    – with high precision (1mm)
    – with high robustness (against interference)
  2. it can detect movements
    – in real-time (response rate of 1ms)
  3. is independent of light (works in bright and dark environments)
  4. and portable
Do you think this technology could be useful for you? In what aras could you imagine such a sensor to be of value ? Your opinions are highly welcome.

Cheers

Could be extremely useful/mandatory for VR, would like to know more about what kind of movement it can detect at 1ms as that is really fast.

hi aabel! thanks for your reply. As far as we were informed, it can detect any kind of movement. Do you have any movement in mind that you think might be problematic to detect ? I’d be happy to hear about it.

Thanks.

if it could do OpenNI style skeletal tracking, with hand/finger and head tracking in the 1ms range that would be amazing, even at 10ms it would be amazing. Whats the range like on this sensor?
