There is a new crowdfunding site specifically oriented toward indie games.
It’s called Game Crowdfund. http://gamecrowdfund.com
Since the site is new, this is the perfect time to post any projects before the official press release goes out to all the media outlets. It is a good way to raise funds for your specific phase of your development. i.e. Seeking funds to pay for custom music for your game, Seeking funds to port your PC game to iOS/Android.
We are going to be marketing the site to gamers to attract them as donors for game projects.
The draw is the ability to gain perks for funding a project, and the connecting the funder and the developer.
We will work with game devs to help get the word out and to develop interesting perks that will bring gamers to support the games.
The advantages are that the site is specifically oriented toward games only. So you are not competing with film or music projects.
Also we are working hand in hand with projects to promote their games to gamers, with a marketing campaign due to start soon.
I don’t believe any other site does that yet.
We can help indie game devs, just ask us and we will provide informative information about what might help attract people to your game.
The puppets are a promo for one campaign, we also have a rap song video, and other video promos all in development. It’s not all puppets, it’s just the first ones out of the gate.
Yes there are, but we will be marketing the game projects as well on other websites, having them in podcasts, and in a variety of media to attract attention to them.
I do not believe they do that at this time. So that does make us unique right now.
i’m sorry to say, but the site doesn’t look trustworthy (more like a site someone quickly madeto mimic the big and real ones).
I might be wrong, though. If i am, my appologies.
Well it is real and it was just launched, so it is new and there are not a lot of projects published to the pages yet.
All the payments are handled via Paypal, and they are not new.
There is no charge to post a project.
Our fee is 5% if goal is reached, which is standard, and not much compared to what we will do to attract people to your project.
We would suggest that a project be submitted to reach a goal that donors can see on the site.
If you show you can reach goals then the donors will be back to help you to your next phase.
A project that just says give me money, and I will make a giant MMO will not get the funding they need.
Using basic project management will give you major mile stones you need to reach and share with the players/donors.
Use the funding to get to a milestone that players will be able to see and they will continue to help.
If a project shows no progress since their last project posted, then people will not donate.
So it is important to post updates thru the site to donors, and to share, show your progress.
Showing where the money is applied builds trust with the players.
The best thing to do is to write up your phases where money will be needed to reach and post it.
You can include videos, and photos with your project, and a link to your website.
Projects should be video game oriented, and the goals should be realistic.
If you have developed past games and post links to past projects you have done, that shows an experience.
Just my opinion, theirs already too many crowd funding platforms out their.
Kickstarter and Indie go are enough, and Desura has it set up where you can let people play your alpha after paying to help fund your development.
I agree with that.
There are already dozens of indie game specific crowdfunding sites. You need something really unique, or you will have a hard time to get that running. Just some puppets won’t help you. I mean, the crowd you want attract are gamers who have the money. Not some preschool kids.
Seems everyone is jumping on that bandwagon since Doublefine hit the big news with its successful Kickstarter fundraising.
well im glad its just your opinion… Thats about as valid as saying we dont need another MMO or an FPS… since you know… there are so many already out there
competition never hurt anyone, and if your not interested in using this site. dont.
Guess i missed the graphics though did catch the hand puppets
The puppets seem inappropriate for the seriousness of this kind of business and what one should expect that game developers and gamers may think as misplaced advertisement enthusiasm, but i was at least entertained.
Puppets are fine, but the delivery was horrible. Puppets should be fun, entertaining etc. - not just reading off some boring marketing spiel. Where was the personality?
Gee good point it was a singing telegram with no personality, You might expect something like banter as in Laural Hardy, Or these guys but in a marketing direction.
I agree. The presentation video is kind of important, it’s the image they want to give! Using puppets is risky because there’s a thin line between “fun” and “childish”.
They gotta be sure people think “serious” while watching something “fun”, instead of thinking “unprofessional” while watching a “cheap” puppet show!
With these puppets thing should try going for an extra professional look, and stay as far away from “homemade” look as it’s possible… homemade is for children, pro is for pros!
I have a few critiques on the puppets, if I may! Firstly, I don’t know much about audio but I think you need better audio quality! I can hear the noise bg! And maybe music too (on the 1st video I mean).
The lighting could use a lil backlighting to enhance the silhouettes! Contrast is GREAT but is a tad bit dark on my screen but maybe that’s my monitor(?).
And perhaps a more sophisticated storyboard for next videos, with some camera variations!
