New Dastardly Banana FPS Starter Kit - Weapon Upgrades Store!

Announcement

I would like to announce that we are planning to remove this package from ActiveDen in the near future, with the intention of updating it and bringing it to the asset store in some way (possibly as an included part of the FPS Constructor).

This means that those of you who purchased it on ActiveDen will no longer be able to download updates through that site.

For anyone considering buying the package, it would likely be easier to wait until we have it on the asse store. For anyone who has already purchased it, please email your proof of purchase to info@dastardlybanana.com (it should have been emailed to you when you bought the package, or you can download it from ActiveDen before we pull the package down) and we give you credit towards the FPS Constructor.

Thank You,

Jason Whitehouse

Original Post

We’re excited to announce a new FPS starter kit from Dastardly Banana available for purchase through ActiveDen - a weapon upgrades and store system!

It’s a fast and easy way to set up upgrades for your weapons, ranging from scopes and secondary weapons to damage modifiers. Then easily apply and unapply them with our store system: just drag the Store Controller prefab into your scene and it will find what it needs on its own. It extends our free weapons system (which will continue to be updated, and stay free). It also comes with two new animated weapons (a .45 pistol and an assault rifle).

EDIT: Here’s a video running through some of the features :

We’re working to develop several more add-ons to sell through ActiveDen, so keep an eye out.

Check it out here.

And here’s a direct link to the weblayer (it’s also on the product page linked above).

Dude I want to thank you for your radar script man it works wonderfully  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpCqnp04r-g

Impressive work.

Awsome
I am thinking of buying it but the only problem is i cant manage to make custom weps.
Is there a tutorial for that? Cuz when i can use my own guns i am pretty sure what i am going to ask for chrismas

again your awsome that you have a free version and i will buy it as soon as i can make my own guns!!

greetz,
me

If you’re having trouble making your own guns, you can check out out video tutorials here (look at ‘Creating/Configuring a Basic Weapon’).

All you need to do is add your gun model onto the gun prefab, then add one script (gunchildanimation) and type into it the names of you weapon/s animations (the Fire Reload animations, and a take-out animation if you have it). Then you can just change whatever stats you want.

I would maybe buy if it wasnt because of the big price. Sorry but its just to much ;).

OMG your awsome!!!
i have been looking like 30min on your site for the tutorials but looked right over it :open_mouth:
thank you very much.
And i gonna beg my mom to use her credit card

No need to apologize, I understand not wanting to spend the money (not everyone needs this package enough to warrant a $35 purchase), that’s why we have a free package as well.

It is a good value, considering the amount of functionality and how easy it is to use; if it’s what you’re looking for it will probably save you many hours of work.

Also, @froekoe I’m glad you like it

No no, you don’t understand me :stuck_out_tongue: i really think this is freaking awesome but 35$ is way to much. If you would sell it for that price you would need to have to add so much more :stuck_out_tongue: but really awesome work mate.
Edit: Haha, im so in love with that FAL xD
Edit2: Suggestions, Handgun looks alittle bit stupid with those green dots/Fal’s run emote looks alittle bit stupid too (no offence bout these 2)/Crouch should be CTRL and shouldn’t be a toggle/add some things like bulletholes (they were at the other version too)/theres many bugs about those shooting targets, they dont work at all. Only sometimes/Make a multiplayer system for those cash/Better weapon sounds could be used/it could be nice with a knife system that pulls out a knife like in mw2/black ops if you click at (example, mouse button 3)/Crosshairs is glitched/Jump is having a bad gravity/Could be nice if you could use the Q weapon change like on counter strike. but else than that… nice . (this is constructive critism) so its not to be a jerk

-as for cost, don’t buy it
-as for crouch, all keys are configurable
-as for shooting targets, please send an email with the issues, I haven’t seen the problems
-as for multiplayer - we’re definitely considering it
-as for better weapon sounds - there are many sites that provide sounds. The package is allows you to attach any sounds you want. Some of the sounds are free and some require royalties
-as for crosshair glitch. We did discover one bug that causes a glitch when you first equip a weapon. We’ll be uploading a fix within the next few days.

I know you didn’t want to give offense but your tone was definitely a bit harsh

$35 isn’t really expensive, considering the amount of works it can save you. It might not be worth it if you aren’t looking for an upgrades and store interface system, but then you aren’t the target audience (and can’t really judge the price). If you really need these things then it’s a worthwhile investment.

In response to your suggestions, (although keep in mind that these actually related to the free package rather than the one this thread is focused on); the things that you’re asking for are all up to the user. The models, sounds, and key bindings are all only meant to show how everything functions, not be an end-all set of art. You can very easily change any of the settings and graphics to be what you want.

(Also, the green dots on the pistol are tritium gunsights which are supposed to glow to help make the sights clearer, although I understand if they aren’t to your taste).

Oh well, first of all it wasnt ment to look harsh  and Jason about the handgun i had no idea, but thats actually quite a good idea. Although i have to say its not MY taste (sure alot of other people would love it) and 35$ is expensive for me tho :stuck_out_tongue: although the kit is probably worth it.

edit: Also i don’t really wanna go more into the price, but i’m sure so many would buy this if the cost was like 10$… Considering you only got 1 purchase at the moment. It could maybe be doubled by 5… You see… 1 person buying it and getting use of it for 35$ aren’t better then 3-4 persons buying it and getting use of it :stuck_out_tongue: my last point is that the free version is just as good as this (almoust has more features other than the shop/weapon upgrade) so i think its pretty overpriced to make the upgraded version so much a difference in the cash. Well anyways thats just MY oppinion and point ;).

@ Rapidz. $35 is a very good price considering all you get.

The turnado twins have a “FPS camera kit” for $15 indie, $45 commercial. Basically it’s just the fps controller that comes with unity with an extra empty game object for gun position.

The free version of this is great as well. Easy to setup and use. I’ll be buying this to at least try it out in a few days but I assume it’s going to be just as easy and quick as the other one.

Again, Dastardly banana, you came out with a good product so keep up the good work!

Also im not much into buying projects that the code could be outdated after 2 months or something, so i’ve thought about if i could be a tester and find bugs for the kit instead of buying it Jason (this might sound like im just trying to get the project for free… But im willing to put in some effort for finding bugs as an experienced fps player) also if you don’t want to do that deal thats fair, i understand your choices
~Rapidz.

@Rapidz This isn’t competing with the free package, it’s a separate product which includes the free package when you download (an expansion, really). The package we’re selling is a fully functional store system and an upgrades system, both of which you could get working in your game in less than half an hour (instead of dozens of hours programming it yourself). As far as the pricing we could probably go back and forth all day about the benefits of lower vs higher pricing :p, but right now we’re happy with the current price (which was set by the guys at ActiveDen, who we trust to know what they’re doing considering how long they’ve been selling stuff online).

Also we’re committed to fixing any bugs that pop up in the package, so it shouldn’t be outdated in 2 months.

@ DarkHazard Thanks!

Yeah i understand. Also i don’t know what you think about my offer
Also this is about the time i’ll stop going on about the price… but think about the protection of the files… anyone can just buy it and give other people it. So 35$ is alittle bit too much espicially for me, i could almoust buy Treyarch’s company for that ammount

This works for unity 2.6?

About the bugs, well im just gonna point some of them out to you, i don’t know if this was because of my lagging laptop but the crosshair just became wider and wider till it wasn’t in the screen anymore - Crosshair again (this is not a bug, but kinda seems weird that the Crosshair goes into the FAL) - shooting ranges, this was caused of the crosshair bug, idk why tho. Anyways i might leave this topic as its too tempting, i really wanna buy this but its just not a price i would give for a game  anyways good luck selling
~Rapidz
P.S how do you make your models? and animations? (off-topic) thanks.

@Rapidz, I think that you should post some screen shots or links to the screen shots so they can know exactly what you mean. The “Crosshair” on the FAL is for the optical sight. Optical sights IRL Have a cross hair in them. sometimes it’s a dot.

Either way, if I was dastardly banana, I would be pretty offended at everything you have posted here. You complain about the price, say there are a lot of bugs in this version and that the free version of the FPS weapon setup is almost as good and there are no changes. After all that complaining you “Offer” to find bugs for them for a free download?

Back on topic, With this kit how much are you able to customize the menus? Would it be easy to add textures without any code or changing the GUI skin?

No, not the optical sight, the white crosshair just goes alittle over the gun …
Edit: i’ve not in anyway tried to harass anyone or annoy anyone, its all constructive critism  also i’m just trying to help as im kind of an perfectionist.
