I have a multiplayer FPS type game idea… What are the options for bringing it to reality with Unity? Why is the platform better for me or for the game? Basically, why should I choose Unity? Save the sales pitches please, Im looking to skip to treating the idea like its the next “thing”, because it is. I appreciate you time
Unreal Engine may be the better option because like the Quake engine it was basically a multiplayer FPS game opened up and made available to third party developers for a price. But it really comes down to what you’re comfortable with using. Unreal Engine may be better for making FPS games but if you don’t enjoy using it then it’s useless.
Thanks Zulo, that’s insightful. I didn’t consider the evolution. There are reasons they both appeal to me so far with slight differences to interface, community and ownership, but to be honest I just want to see the game made and make some money. I care about the game and would love to run the development but it will also have a life of its own so Im willing to discuss forms of ownership/involvement. I have a lot of modeling experience but I’m too damn old to go through the dev myself unless someone made it really easy on me. I have zero money to put towards it but the game idea is gold and Im sure people would get behind it until it was made into something. Do you develop games or know of anyone good to talk to on the forums?
You could try asking in this section.
if you want to use unity, use it, if you dont dont… its a bit like buying a car, all cars will get you from a->b, things that will influence your decision are familiarity, language used, cut taken in the event of success, features, target platforms etc.
there are a bunch of engines out there, arguably all the 3d ones likely will make your game perfectly well, or 2d if your idea is 2d…
Only you can decide what is best for you/your team/your project
Thank you for that bug. It gives me a bit to think about. Much appreciated
