New GUI - Text not rendering in front of geometry if using a Mask

I’ve started to use the new GUI that comes with Unity 4.6 and I’m running into issues with rendering occlusion that I can’t seem to find the solution.

I have several nested groups of images/texts etc and some are using masks. When I place my Canvas in front of geometry the text doesn’t show anymore. If I disable some of the masks the problem still persists but it changes what is the layer that doesn’t get rendered.

You can see the issue in this image where the bottom left of the GUI is not rendering the text if there is geometry behind it.
