Wow… this looks like the machine of choice for me. I’m looking (hoping) to get myself the top-of-the-line, 3.06 GHz, $2,200 model. Dreamy :roll: It would be a great break from a MacBook, anyway.

Well I was waiting on the refresh to order mine. (first apple) so I can work with Unity.
I just pulled the trigger and ordered a refurb 2.8/24 inch. It’s a $700 savings compared to what the same machine would have cost new at the Apple store 3 days ago.
Yea it’s a refurb but it still has the exact same 1 year warranty as a band new machine. IMHO I’d almost bet it will likely be a new machine, because Apple will need to clear out their old stock.
Personally I wouldn’t buy a new one vs the price savings you can get on the refurbs, not unless you go with the 3ghz and the new vid card. If you just get say the new 2.8 with the standard video card IMO the upgrade isn’t enough for the added price.
The 20 inch 2.4 refurbs are a hell of a deal as well, but I wanted the 24 inch.
I’d probably go with a refurb over the new model, but if I were to have to get one from the new lineup, I’d get the low-end 24" and upgrade the graphics card (and hard drive, if you need the space). I don’t think the 2.8 to 3.06 GHz jump is worth a couple hundred bucks, but that’s subjective.
And I don’t think the 2.4 to 2.8 GHz jump is worth $500 either, but the extra size/resolution of the screen makes the 2.8 GHz refurb something to seriously consider. Remember, the Apple Store charges tax. This one would be my choice, but I could never use OS X without a multitouch trackpad anymore, so this is a moot point, but I still think it’s the best deal.

Yea the tax part sucks. I’m not sure why Apple charges tax on internet sales. I wonder if it could be because they have Apple stores in each state.
I was also going to just go with that same 20 inch, but I kept reading about people complaining about the 20 inch screen. Seems it’s not that great of quality which is why I went for the 24.
Very true. The 20-inch screen uses a 20-bit display (with dithering) instead of 24-bit, so there could be annoying color banding in certain cases. Now, I’ve used this screen, and it’s still very nice, but the 24" is certainly preferable.
Those are very costly for me.
Now, I’m going to buy a second hand MacBook Pro or iMac to study Unity.
Take a look around ebay or even the refurbs from Apple. You can save a little cash that way.
