New MacBooks and MacBook Pros (Feb. 08)

Thought I’d start a thread for the moaning about underpowered videocards:

MacBooks have Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
Pros have NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB GDDR3 memory and w/512MB

GO!

No reason to panic, the Mini still comes with GMA950… :O)

I ordered the stock low-end MacBook Pro, and will be ordering another after I get paid on Friday. Two mid-2006 MBP’s for sale! PM if interested.

The MacBook is still terrible; I was hoping they would consolidate the whole line to reflect what is done with the iMac. I was also hoping for the cheapest Pro to have a 2.5 GHz processor set, so I could have a better cache. Oh well, at least we finally get 256 MB of VRAM at that price point, though. The keyboard is still disgusting…I really hope this is the last generation to use the PowerBook form factor.

For the MBP’s, isn’t that the same exact video card?

Looks like it. Just double the RAM in each configuration. (Yay, no new driver bugs to work around… I hope!?)

The MacBook Pros have a history of keeping the same video card through two revisions. I didn’t expect anything different.

And they use Penryns…
