New pricing model. This is ridiculous.

Just received the message about the new price model. Sorry guys, this is ridiculous. We'll leave the platform as soon as possible. End and over.

Yeah... I love Unity but the price changes this year (Industry and now this). Do they want to destroy themselves?!
Everyone will go

Impossible to scale mobile games anymore, this is an absolute joke. We are out as well.

Well we were all wondering at one point or another how long Unity will be around based on their decision making over last few years. It seems with the consistency of the bad decision making and this one in particular, that time could come sooner than any of us expected.

I just saw this on twitter, this is sad day for long time Unity fans. :(

Well, alright. This one is actually really bad.

I suppose it is time to wipe dust from that C++ knowledge.

Thanks for letting me know.

"Been procrastinating on checking out the Godot engine? Well Unity's got you covered."

I think it could be a good time to try writing a tiny game engine for portfolio purposes. Once all other stuff is dealt with.

Apparently, nobody at Unity sees a problem with this math.

That's $22,500 per month (assuming installs continue) that developer needs to have disposable, planned as a contingency (often, payment targets from ad and app store platforms are 1-3 months delayed), AND that's $22,500 the developer previously would never have had to pay, because, you know, they already paid $150 per seat per month for the entire duration of the development of the game.

Apart from my time at King.com, I have never worked for a developer that could have spared $75K in money to front Unity before they could start recollect it from the App Stores 2-3 months later.

My boss told us Monday morning that we're re-tooling away from Unity, and to put together a final release version of our current project. He must be able to see the future.

For the time being, let's keep the discussion of this topic one place. Clearly there are a lot of questions and very little information at this point, so watch for additional clarification in that thread, and keep discussion of the topic there.
