New project terrain is bright green

All of a sudden, when I create a new project and add a terrain, it shows in scene view as a bright green area instead of the usual non-descript colour it used yesterday.

When I add an asset to the terrain, it too shows up as bright green.

When I paint a texture of the terrain, it is not visible in scene view but is visible in game view.

AFAIK nothing changed in Unity from yesterday when it was working to today when it’s behaving strangely.

The effect happens for new projects and existing projects.

There was a similiar recent post but the solution applied to existing projects, not for new ones.

Any ideas?

Change the drop-down at the top left of the viewport from Render Paths to textured.
