We have have added a few new items to the asset store. While we have added 2 new models to the asset store, we have also added a script that simulates the effect of a fast moving wheel by swapping out the wheel model or swapping the model’s materiel once the wheel reaches your set rotation speed.

The “Spinning Wheel Effect” scripts are for achieving the look of wheels moving very fast, and avoid the “wagon wheel” effect caused by wheels rotating 360° once per frame. Making it look like the wheels are not moving. To avoid this issue, the script swaps assets to simulate the look of a spinning wheel. This video shows you how you can use this tool on your own wheel objects, or with unity car. You apply the script to your wheel, reference a model/material that you have pre-made to simulate the look of a spinning wheel and apply it to the script, set your wheel rotation speed and run. The scripts will swap out assets at run time when the wheel reaches your set rotation speed inside of the script.

I have gotten several emails requesting that I convert these models on our site to unity assets. The super speedway scene is based on a historic track located in Daytona Fl. USA. The model has 2 configurations, the 2.5 mile oval, or the Grand-am road course. While the model is upwards of 200,000 polys, it can be scaled back to as little as 70,000 and still look great. The pitbox models are also setup to use LOD’s and the asset comes with the source PSD’s and FBX files.

The new 2014 stockcar model body uses a high detail normal map to achieve it’s look. In total, the model is only around 2400 triangles (counting all 4 wheels). This car was made to look good on PC/Mac and be very compatible with mobile devices. The asset is broken up into components to make it easier to work with and draw. The glass, netting, underbody, wheels, and body are each their own object so you can adjust the settings each individual part easy in case you need to remove a part, or change how it draws.
