Hey, I’ve been wanting to make a 3d game for a long time however I have been unable due to having 0 knowledge in the 3D modelling department. Are there any good tutorials or advice you have for me? Or should I just find someone to partner with to do the modelling for the game?
Nothing beats having the knowledge to create something yourself.
I’d download Blender to start with. No specific tutorials come to mind, but Blender have some video tutorials on their website.
Good luck!
Ok, I’ll look through blender.com, is there a good place for free textures? Also, are ‘solids’ defined in blender or unity3d.
a very good place for textures
http://cgtextures.com/index.php
seems like from what i read off there web site that Ubisoft used that cgtextures for the assassins creed games
Personally Blender is good enough if you are starting out fresh and its free. I like Softimage for it being real easy to use and learn but the price tag (over $3000) will turn anyone away same goes for 3DS Max and Maya.
one thing you will learn over time if you want to do 3d modeling is polygon count. most people when starting out (even me) made high res models or at least put a lot of detail into there models. over time you will learn how to make models that are have a less poly count, and will find ways to “cheat” a model to look how it suppose to.
One thing that is a must have is Photoshop. with Photoshop you can pretty much do a lot of things to “fake” things on a model that isnt really there. like buttons on a gun. or a panel on a wall.
