New to Unity - Importing my model / testing it. Help please.

Hi,

I’ve never used Unity before. This is what I want to do with it:

I have a model of a gun that I created in 3DS Max, 2 versions of it, low poly and high poly.

I want to import the model into a sample scene inside Unity and see what the impact on frame rate is for the low poly vs high poly versions.

I’ve heard there is an example scene / animation with a character running and carrying a gun, any idea where that is? And if so, how easy would it be to replace the gun in that scene with my model?

I’ve tried downloading an example game and importing my model into the scene, but it has no textures on it, when it does in 3DS Max.

So my other questions are:

Are there some example scenes / animations that come with Unity?

How do I show the textures on the model after I import it?

I would appreciate any help on this, or a step by step of what I need to do. Thanks.

Are Your Textures Just Color That you added to the gun in 3ds max? or are they picture files that you imported to 3ds max.
Anyways If you are looking for the dude running with gun example it normaly comes with unity3d. you have to check the box in the installer that says “bootcamp demo” or somthing like that. If you need more help im allways open. give me a PM

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I did install that bootcamp demo with Unity, I found it now.

The textures are Blend materials, most of them contain image masks for the scratches / marks. Those are the only image files used for the textures.

ok so I’ve opened the Bootcamp demo and imported my gun model. Now all I need to know is how to make the textures appear on my gun and then how to replace my gun with the one currently held by the character.

Bump, can anyone help please?
