new to unity

hi all… I just joined the forum and this is my first post here.

I’m an actionscript developer and I’m turning on unity to see if it can solve me a problem with a project.

I’m developing this 2D-to-3D app in papervision3d where I can draw a 2D plan of a room, add 2D objects in to it (chairs, windows, doors, walls, whatever…) and then build the 3D of it all and walk around the place…

actionscript and papervision can do the trick except for imported 3ds object and texture quality… any papervision3d scene with more than 3000 (three thousand) polygons simply wont work…

my question is… is unity a tool I can use to acomplish this ?

thanks…

jose

Unity doesn’t have a builtin feature for that. But, I don’t think you need one with Unity’s great editor. Placing objects is a “snap” with 3.0 which will be coming out soon (likely in July). You can easily navigate the scene in 3d space and drag and drop your objects right where you need them.

Yes, as far as the polygon size, Unity can easily handle 3000 and much more.

thanks Peter and Don… will dive into the tutorials and start building a prototype after .
