New to unity

Hi guys, I’m new here. I’m pretty much starting off on making a few serious games, since I’ve done some home-games (aka test projects) the past few years using GML and Pygame. I’ve been reading a few posts and I bumped on some interesting questions. Maybe someone could answer, so I can have a good point of view, even though I believe the unity game engine is a diamond :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyhow, why do people insist on MAC unity game development? I mean ain’t windows good enough for work? (Ok they suck generaly but you get my point).

Secondly. I know it’s a hassle but a few tips on a newbie amateur(and hope someday prof) game dev (mainly on 3D) would be appreciated. I’ve been reading a lot of books on game developing, coding generaly etc. My plan is to make an action RPG Zelda-Kingdom Hearts mix…

Anyhow I hope I don’t sound overconfident or something. I know it’s a hard bussiness but fact is I love it and I wanna work hard to learn, and overcome all of my obsticles that get in my way. Cheers

Kalispera Despair,

I don’t think people insist on a Mac-Unity workflow. The main reason the OSX environment is talked about is because people are building applications for the iPhone/iPad, which require a Mac (for uploading the app, but it is a better experience since you can develop for the device in a more immediate manner).

If you are working on a Windows game, there is no reason to use a Mac. Of course if you are targeting the Mac App store, a Mac would be useful for obvious reasons.

There is no question in the second part of your post. Maybe you wanted to form one, but instead simply stated your goal or do you want our opinion on that goal?

The main reason people insist on a mac is because you need os x to build for iOS. There might be other reasons, I’m not familiar with them.

Hehe a greek? Ellinas kai dw :stuck_out_tongue: (ANyhow back to english for typical reasons). Well I would like an opinion on what I want to do. I mean it’s me and my pal who love this stuff and pretty much setting off for this project. All opinions/advice would be more than appreciated.

(Though im pretty eager to see how we will manage 3D animation and modeling, since im a starter and my friend rather good :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: It’s gonna be a heck of a ride…;P)

Other than iOS and the Mac App Store, nobody insists on Mac (not MAC) Unity development.
