I know that the following is probably the least important thing to worry about with upcoming Unity 3 release, but I’d very much like to see a fresh Unity logo inside my dock.
Don’t know how to put it the right way, but when I buy an update/upgrade to a huge and amazing software package like Unity, I think it makes it even nicer, if it comes with a new logo.
I certainly don’t want to imply, that the current one is bad in any way, just mean it’d be a great finishing touch to this huge release.
Voted for the second! But the current one is just timeless, I wish I would have such a remarkable and fancy logo for my stuff (°o°)
I may ask a side question here:
How do you design a logo for your projects? Haven’t found some usefull literature in the web about logo design. It seems that most of the popular logos(apple, windows, nike,…) were created out of the blue and a “lucky strike”.
Yeah, I agree, the current one is timeless. However, making it a bit fresher for the new product would be the next logic step in moving it along with the evolution of the product itself. Hope, that makes any sense.
Well, in my opinion, creating a great logo is everything but a lucky strike. It requires a lot of skill and experience to create something as simple as a nike logo.
Remember, the hardest part of all is making it look simple
A logo is supposed to contain a message. It’s primary mission is to brand itself on the memory of every person looking at it. Some of the most famous logos share some interesting geometric structures. If you do a youtube search on logos and symbolism, you might find out more about that.
So, believe me, people who are designing logos for big companies know exactly what they are doing. There are no coincidences. It takes a lot more than hitting some buttons inside photoshop and throwing in some glow and reflections.
When I need to design a logo, I usually look for inspiration on the internet. I try to come up with a design, that is unique to my product and what it stands for.
Anyways, I’m not a professional designer and still have to learn a lot. Usually, when absolutely no idea comes to mind, I spend some time reading photoshop tutorials, which surprisingly always do the trick for me and I end up with a good idea.
I was wondering recently if Unity has any kind of issues with other companies using their logo.
At first I thought that they may think: “Hey, they like our product. If they want to show the love by incorporating the logo into theirs, go for it” but then I thought “It’s still a brand symbol and that can now be connected to the lowest standard crp out there and spread the word of the shtty piece of cr*p called Unity”
I finally settled upon “Heck, if you can’t even have your own brand logo but have to pirate someone else’s… that is just too sad”
I liked this thing where people modded the logo and wanted to create a logo for myself also and thought I’d incorporate the Unity logo into mine. So I decided against that and now I still have no logo…
I like the logo, however I dont like the splashscreen in the beta. Hopfully it goes away when we reach final version.
Why? It’s too game centric for me (visualisation.)
A way of changing the splash image into a custom one maybe?
