New way that Unity should teach

In the assets store, there is an asset called Codey’s Lab which teaches you how to use Unity, here is the link:

Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making

It is an intereactive way to learn Unity which is better than watching video tutorials.

I wish that Unity would create something similar to this where you can learn interactively instead of making video tutorials as it is far better to learn interactively instead of watching videos as learning interactively forces users to think, and I found it more helpful to learn interactively.

Also please make it for free, thank you

$15 is CHEAP!

I feel these guys put their heart into this, and for less than a Udemy course, you get to be trained in the editor!

I can’t comment on anything we would be doing internally, but in-editor learning projects have been under discussion since I was first hired. It’s fantastic to see someone who’s put in the time to accomplish it.

But what I a

But what I am trying to say is that Unity should make multiple interactive tutorials instead of making video tutorials. Especially since I feel as though the whole business that made Codey’s Lab is abandoned, and Codey’s Lab only teaches the basic stuff.

By the way how come you can’t comment on what you are doing internally just asking?

Well, as an employee of Unity Technologies, I could talk about things we’re a planning, or planning on planning - but often, if we are actively talking about it, people may take this as a sign that this will be definitely happening or imminent.

There are a lot of good things about Codey’s Lab, but to create useful and informative interactive tutorials takes a phenomenal amount of work. Also, depending upon who you are, some people do get more from an interactive lesson, but at least an equal amount of people feel restricted when following tightly controlled lessons like this.

I think what the people behind Codey’s Lab did was fantastic… Sadly there has not been a huge amount of response to this type of tutorial. On the other hand, we’ve had hundreds of thousands of views on our video learning material. Some of our videos have around 100k views alone. Now, this is partly due to the money barrier, even if it’s only $15, but it may also be partly because of style as well.

Let’s leave it at: We are always exploring new ways to teach Unity, and when we find solutions that are acceptable in quality of education and are reasonable to produce, we will do them.

Ok fine but could you please take this idea to your people at least? Thanks

Codey’s Lab was meant to revolutionize how we learn Unity3D and C# as a whole. It went great with user testing, but the demand just wasn’t there. We spent probably 5 months developing the platform, and each course took about 3 weeks to create. 3 weeks as in legit, 8 hour days. None of us had the time, and the time it took to create new content wasn’t matching up to the amount of money we made off the asset store. People just weren’t interested enough in this idea.

I spent almost 3 years working on a way to revolutionize learning Unity & C#. Codey’s Lab by far is the most successful shot I had it. Sadly, the lack of interest made me feel as if the community didn’t need it.

Haven’t done a new tutorial since. (Always in the back of my mind though…maybe one day i’d pick it back up and bring back the most interactive tutorials the world has ever seen  )

In the mean time, feel free to check out my interactive tutorials on YouTube. If you enjoyed Codey’s Lab, you’ll enjoy the youtube tutorials too

Hey there, I have a suggestion for your tutorials, one reason why people did not download the full version is cause it costed money; is it possible if you could create a free version but with ads on it, yes I know that people can remove the ads so instead could you please build an standalone executable file for Windows and make it free with ads support so that way you can receive money while more people will download it.

Plus I have a teacher that runs a Unity group at school so I could suggest your products to him, that way you have more people downloading your programs. But if you make it for free with ads support then he will most likely download it.

Thanks for reading this
