Newbie here looking for friends (Little bit of personal sotry)

Hi guys,

My name is Santi, I’m an industrial engineer from Colombia, I just started using unity, actually I just started programming and I’m feeling overwhelmed of emotion so far, I was working on a construction company doing some boring stuff, my dream is to be a game developer, I know there’s a big road ahead but I’ll be starting my software engineering master in a couple months.

Well I just want to say hi, and to have some of you to share your stories with me as some sort of motivation and guidance, even if you want to share your projects and works that would be awesome, Are you guys new to unity? Experienced? Do you have any tips for newcomers? Any mistakes or lessons you had learned with blood on the way?

Right now I’m doing a course on Udemy and I’m 60% through it and I’m working on the roll a ball tutorial game on the unity page with some funny modifications.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to the forums, you certainly do have a long road ahead

Welcome! There’s never been a better time to get started with game development. Unity is free to use (unless you’re making over $100k USD), and there’s a great community of helpful people here when you have questions or need moral support.

Unlike construction, no one will die if you make a mistake when you’re learning game development. (Thank goodness, because I make plenty!) So just jump in, make mistakes, and try to learn from each one. And have fun!

Hmm… debatable…

Someone posted a cool inspirational video on slack recently:

game making is awesome if you have the time for it. i’m not selling my game but rather using it on my resume, hoping its success will get me a foot in the door in the industry as a programmer. i’m also going to school for computer science. i took some time off just to work on my game … it’s been a long road, and it’s just one relatively short rpg. if this is what you want to do, good luck!
