News Article: Microsoft’s most ambitious Xbox One plans appear dead

They’re happy to have Xbone perceived as just a game console?

A while back I came really close to buying an XBox One because they said it wouldn’t need a Dev Kit.
Had I gone through with it, I’d be super #$%@ed right now.

That sounds more as if their hopes for game development for the masses didn’t pan out.

They could try to reposition themselves as interactive learning for school tutorials for the masses - a good game engine, subject matter experts, and the Kinect engineers could reasonably handle with proper patience. The online learning providers the US government pays big, big money to for are grossly overpaid and behind the times.

Seriously great points!

Would have been nice, no reason they couldn’t open up development and just curate the incoming flood. Create some hurdles to submission I guess to cull the low hanging fruit.

The whole way MS has handled the Xbox indie developer program has been embarrassing.

I’m quite shocked to be honest.

Didn’t participate but watched from a distance. No reason they couldn’t have done it better.

CDI anyone

A bit misleading because the animations in those cartoons wasn’t so interactive as possible today with Kinect and other controllers. But the interactivity they could do today would be so much better and interesting.

My autistic nephew started out with a touch screen learning program and still finds cracks to beat games that weren’t programmed into the game. We’d call them bugs but I’m clueless to how he does it.

Microsoft don’t have a clue when it comes to games. It’s that simple.

Not a problem. Problem is they don’t re-purpose that very expensive and capable tech to interest others than teenage boys. It’s only like the majority of the world’s population.

I was a loyal Xbox player of 10 years. Last year (2014) I bought a PS4 around February and a Wii U later in the year. I’m quiet happy with both of them and I’m happy I jumped off the Xbox bandwagon.

I already owned a high end gaming PC, so a console was so and so for me. Xbox One wasn’t even considerable when it came out. A ludicrous $500 price tag forcing you to buy that stupid Kinect sensor with it that was an invasion of privacy. I knew from the Xbox 360 alone that they were taking the console too far away from being a serious gaming system. They kept trying to market to “families” and making these stupid kids games and features like the Kinect camera.

Another thing that really freaking urked me was that, Xbox was re-releasing alot of games! One of the biggest launches was the Halo re-release with all four original titles or something. Great, I love Halo. But at the same time, I’ve been playing Xbox since the original, and why I am I going to pay $500 to play the SAME GAMES as last two generations? Sure, they are remade in HD and everything, but it’s still the same games, storylines, and online at the core. Don’t mind me, but I would like to move on and enjoy other games, franchises, and systems out there, not play the same old crap. Also, I was a very big Halo 2 player, and I find it sacrilegious they re-released that game. For me, that game was sacred ground, they should have NEVER remade it. It had a good place in gaming history, myself and friends had many good memories on it. Then they got to remake it and release it with from what I heard a completely broken online/matchmaking system. Idiots.

The PS4 is right on the money. Superior hardware built for gaming, it has apps I enjoy (like Amazon Prime Video), but doesn’t extend too far beyond that. At the core, it is a legit gaming system. I enjoyed many games on it so far including Destiny, Killzone, GTA V, and others. Xbox One was not a gaming system, it is crap. I don’t care if they change the system now, too little too late. I’ll stick to my PS4. Maybe when the next Xbox comes out I will think about going back.

I was hopeful when I signed up but Microsoft has fumbled their indie program so badly I don’t see it ever changing.

Sunset Overdrive is a great reason to pick up xbox.

It’s pretty safe to say that Microsoft’s plans for it to become the one box to rule them all has fallen flat. It seems like they were betting on the xbox being there to take care of the media center market, but it didn’t seem to pick up at that price at all.

I think it’s safe to say the xbox one is going to continue to be successful alongside ps4. The emphasis is about exclusives, and exclusives are great business.

Oh sure xbox one will continue to be success but China can and will compete there too. The manufacturers and the engineering talent is there and extremely competent.

US needs to wake up but I welcome Chinese business doing what American businesses refuse to do and that is try to equalize the playing fields for all common people if not the rich people. The best mistake American businesses ever made for much of the would was outsourcing to China if not in their own business interests long term. They are left with realms of un-spendable paper money (except hollow transactions buying each other out for inflated prices) and are running out of things to outsource. Fly to Dubai and salt your sunny side up eggs with gold flakes.

You have time to actually play games?? :eyes:

Why, what happened?

Yeah! mostly it’s steam stuff at the moment. I’m playing This War of Mine and Ziggurat. I like Zigg a fair bit, its a nice permadeath fps with procedural rooms. Good for 20 mins a pop.
