Here is a demo of a little holidy-themed game I am working on. I started this last Friday (6 days ago) and have been working on it in my free time. I hope to get it finished this weekend. Right now it is, at best, a graphics demo… it is a pretty toy. My next step is to add real game elements (an objective and score, maybe levels).
I hope to get this on a portal. Let me know what you think.
And before this you do get a broken streaming bar which starts right in the middle. One message i never saw before was in the lower/right corner, that the content also can be downloaded from the forum, same font as in the image.
I think the branches look pretty nice, but they don’t convince me on the whole. I live in a place with a good amount of evergreens, though, so I’m probably a bit picky.
I like the “dual zone” controls (especially for fullscreen) with regular mousing in the center and auto-rotation on the outside. I’m a fan of really simple control schemes.
(I think pine branches do point up–but then sag down when weighted.)
Works now beside of that the streaming bar is still starting in the middle. It was funny to draw around the tree but i find the music quite depressing.
Do you know boesendorfer? :O) Not Keith Jarrett but i dunno i feel better with this one instead.
Taumel, The streaming bar starting in the middle happens on my iMac G5 but does not happen on my Macbook (intel). I wonder if it is a bug with unity? Either way, it doesn’t appear to effect the game in anyway.
You are correct the music is a bit depressing, I guess. I’m trying to get a certain feeling with this game and, in my opinion, the slow music help achieve it. I want the user to feel a bit alone, standing in the middle of a desolate snow field at night, but to feel uplifted by the decorating of the tree… mixed emotions.
The music is an old traditional Christmas song, “O Holy Night”. That is where I got the name (Night Divine) of the game from, the lyrics go “O Holy night, O Night Divine”. It is being played by a talented independent musician, Kevin MacLeod. The song is under a Common Creative license. I hope to use more of his music in the future.
In my opinion the music and the christmas tree don’t fit together very well because i do have different feelings when watching such a tree. I don’t get the mix of emotions you are trying to achieve but maybe that’s just me.
Randy, what did you do to fix that “Failed to update” error? I’m getting it on a webplayer now–but only on one computer (PPC), not my Intel MBP. Is there an easy fix?
