No Grid (at any point) in Unity 3

Having just got the Unity 3 beta, the grid appears to have disappeared from the Scene view. A search on unityAnswers (and google) reveals only this answer http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/2056/no-grid-on-unity-2-6-pro, the solution for which doesn't make any difference.

Is there a specific show/hide grid option, or has the grid just been removed entirely?

The middle of the small buttons in the Scene View control bar toggles Game Overlay.

Enabling Game Overlay will show items like Skyboxes and GUI Elements in the Scene View, and it will also hide the grid.
