I submitted a bug report on it… I’m on x1600 as well (my good video card fried). I need SM3 for one of my post process shaders… Hope they fix it soon…
Could any of you tell which shaders do not work? I can not reproduce the issue on Radeon X1600 on Windows.
Aras,
Personally I didn’t have a specific problem with a shader, but I don’t develop that much on my 1st gen macbook pro anyway. But in Graphics Emulation → Shader Model 3.0 is grayed out. Additionally, I’m fairly certain that with 2.6.1 Shader Model 3.0 wasn’t disabled.
The real problem I have though is this : http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/64896-Strange-problem-on-shadows-(unity3)-with-different-graphic-cards! which I am not sure if it’s related to the SM 3.0 thing or not. It happens for me on my macbook pro x1600 with Windows (the mac version works fine I think).
Actually it’s been a while since I tested that with the macbook pro, give me a couple of days and I’ll have more stuff to report.
Yeah, the emulation is grayed out, but that’s because we lump a ton of things under “Shader Model 3.0” label. And among one of them we put “native support for shadow maps”, which Radeon X1xxx series do not support (but they are otherwise SM3.0 compliant).
