No splash screen customization on the free tier?!

I just received this message from Unity:

"As a current Unity Plus subscriber, we want to ensure you’re aware of your splash screen customization access, a valued Unity Plus feature.

Splash screen customization: To maintain your ability to customize the splash screen, you must renew your Unity Plus subscription or purchase a Unity Pro subscription before March 27. Unity Pro offers continued access to this feature, so you can present your projects as you or your clients desire. If you’re considering an upgrade or renewal, now’s the time to act.

Upgrade options:

  • Unity Pro special offer: Until March 27, 2024, upgrade to Unity Pro for up to 80% off.* Take advantage of the offer here.
  • Unity Plus renewal: You can renew Unity Plus for an additional year until March 27, 2024."

Didn’t Unity announce recently, that this feature is now available on the free tier? I am also quite surprised that they offer to renew the Plus subscription. Until December they told me this was not possible.

What a communication mess.

It’s not, they said clearly before and they haven’t changed this bit at all:

  • Plus is going away
  • The last chance to renew Plus is March, 2024
  • Otherwise it falls back to Personal or you can subscribe to Pro
  • The NEW Unity 6 will have the feature to turn off splash screen for all licenses
  • Any version BEFORE Unity 6 will not allow this, only the proper licenses allow splash screen to be turned off

Which means if you want to use any version before Unity 6 and you want a splash screen-free build, you need a Plus, Pro or Enterprise (etc) subscription.

Man I just answered a thread about this: Splash screen customizations

It was pretty clear in the announcements that splash screen customisation was only for users of Unity 6 and beyond:

Update or just a mistake into the communications, because today I saw the unity site and this is how it looks.

Just a mistake although in this case it needs more than just a simple checkmark as it’s dependent on version.
