Hi, probably a noob question but i have to ask: how much does a game engine count in the graphic quality of a game respect of the quality of 3d models, textures, etc being used?
There are a lot of unity3d vs unreal engine disucssions around but i don’t get these points.
For example i never found a video on youtube about unity that gived me the wow factor like in this video
with the UE4. Is this related only to the engines or more on the quality of graphic assets available for these engines? What would be the results if using the same assets of a UE4 game in unity3d?
Well both really, if you have crappy models textures then no matter what it’s going to look shitty. But Unreal is better than unity graphically, has better shadows / lighting etc.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t get stuff to look as good as that video. It’d just take a little more time / effort.
The quality has without doubt a lot to do with the assets used and the talent of the development team. That said, UE4 does have a more modern rendering engine than Unity 4. With Unity 5 that gap will lessen.
I’d say the one of the most visually impressive demos made in Unity 4 is The Butter Fly Effect:
There’s more to an engine than the rendering capabilities though that should be taken into consideration when starting a new project.
Yeah Unity 5 changes everything! I’ve played with the beta and it’s allot better! just loading a scene with default lighting and a cube looks 10 times better than Unity 4.
oh mate for sure! Not sure if you’ve seen any videos on it but it’s pretty cool. It gets information from your skybox and lights your scene based on that! finds the sun, adjusts your directional light based on that then pow! looks pretty cool… Shadows still look like crap though
Do you know if there are around packages with high-tech 3d models and textures similar to the ones in the video that could be purchased and used in a game?
