Noobish install issue

Hi, I am having an issue that I’m sure must come down to me missing something major. Super appreciate any help with it. I use Unity as an artist, but I do not program so assume you’re talking to someone mostly tech illiterate please. When I install PlasticSCM, the program that opens is an empty toolbar, with no options other than to move or close itself. I have installed from a few different links, including the client downloader, and it’s always the same result (though depending on which link I install from, the taskbar icon is either blur or red.) If it’s relevant, I am attempting to use Plastic to download an old collaborative project that runs on Unity 2017.3.0f3
Thanks a ton; it’s so obviously broken that I must be being very stupid one way or another. Thanks for helping me figure out how

Hey Tarpit,

This is not noobish at all! I’m really sorry for the inconvenience.

I suspect that our installer is having compatibility issues with your hardware. So that I can investigate this further for you, please can you log this as a support ticket and share your computer specifications and a screenshot?

Thanks so much for replying! I submitted a request under the “non-technical support” option, including specs and a screenshot. Is that the right place? I super appreciate your attention on this.

Got your ticket. Let’s discuss this further there!

To circle back here, deleting the local configuration files (which appeared to be malformed) at…

  • %localappdata%\plastic4 on Windows
  • ~/.plastic4 on Mac and Linux

…resolved this issue. If I identify how the configuration files can get into this state, I’ll circle back here again.
