Not able to create a 2d physics material

I am not getting an option under Assets → Create → Physics Material 2d
instead it shows me just Assets → Create → Physics Material

Are you using Unity 2020.2 or newer? If so, take a look at this post:

Thanks for highlighting this! Yes, there was a bug/issue where the Sprite Package had to be installed first for the Physics Material 2D to be available. It should be fixed by now. From Unity versions 2020.2 and after, the Physics Material 2D can be accessed via Assets > Create > 2D > Physics Material 2D. This was in efforts to streamline and gather all the 2D menu items in one convenient location - the 2D folder. [6861302--800192--2D Menus Reorg 2D Physics Material.png]
