Not Unity Specific image question.

Hi all,

I have a texture map for a moon and as they’re usually designed to be wrapped around a sphere looking at the image ‘flat’ the top and bottom are ‘squished’ to accommodate the curvature of the sphere.

My question is, does anyone have any ideas about ‘undistorting’ the image so that when looking at it flat it becomes a square and any crates at the top and bottom of the image are circular?

Simply stretching the image doesn’t work because craters at the center become elongated.

I’m sure I’ve figured it out before, but I seem to be having weird brain issues.

Thanks
Spud.

Although not quite understand your question in detail.
But maybe some map projection technique should help?
