Greetings every one of you wonderful Mac, Linux, Android, iOS and everything else except maybe Windows 10 users.
My name is Aaron and I’m the developer of LushLOD Trees, a hopefully soon-to-be released tree converter that turns ANY tree made with the Unity Tree Creator into a LushLOD Tree.
LushLOD Trees transition seamlessly into billboards in the distance, and have numerous visual and speed optimizations that make them faster than regular trees. Basically the idea was to be able to create a lush, thick forest of thousands of trees on the screen, while still maintaining a smooth frame rate even on older graphics cards.
I need beta testers to test this asset on other platforms!
I’ve been working exclusively on my one and only computer. I’m not rich so, my computer is a 5 year old laptop with an integrated graphics card, which is now running windows 10.
I’m looking for people interested in beta testing the trees on other platforms / computers. This isn’t an open beta, applicants may be screened, and I’ll only be accepting a limited number of interested folks. Please be willing to provide helpful feedback. Send me a PM if you are interested!
Unfortunately my laptop is so slow, I can barely record a video. But I went ahead and recorded a video anyway. It’s slightly embarrassing how slow my comptuer is, but on the up side at least that means I designed these trees to be able to run on my laptop. It’s also a bit lower frame rate in my video because I’m recording.
Here’s the video:
At the end of the video, I turned off the transitions feature (you’ll see it when I switch to “HQ Trees Only” mode). The frame rate drops to 3 frames per second when I do that. Then I switch it back to “Use Both” mode, which uses both the HQ trees (up close) and the billboards (far away), and you can see the difference in the frame rate.
Actually, the test I did at the end of the above video wasn’t really fair, because LushLOD’s faster shaders were still active on the HQ trees. So even though I switched it to “HQ Trees Only” mode, it still was benefiting from fully baked shadow maps made by LushLOD to make the HQ trees faster.
