I am a new developer and I want to try Unity. I have recently downloaded the free version but whenever I am trying to install it, I am getting this error -
I have searched the internet for some solutions but none of them worked. I have used that “/NCRC” solution but even though it starts the installation, the extraction process stops at midway, aborting the installation and claiming that the installer is corrupted. This is the error I am getting -
I have also tried disabling my antivirus (Avast Premiere) and firewall. Rebooted my PC multiple times and downloaded the file at least 5 times. However, none of these worked.
This is my computer spec:
OS: Windows 8.1 Professional
GPU: AMD HD 6870 1 GB GDDR5
RAM: 8GB DDR3
Processor: AMD Phenom™ II x4 955 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.2 GHz
It looks like your installer hasn’t downloaded properly, did you make sure you removed the installer from your downloads before trying to download again?
Try downloading a patch release and compare the md5sum Download Archive (details in the release notes)
It is weird because md5sum of the latest patch release and of the installer from the official site are not identical. And yes, I did a fresh downloading every time, clearing out all cache and local files beforehand.
I am using Google Chrome with Internet Download Manager. However, I have tried -
IDM to download it using their manager.
Used Chrome’s downloading manager.
Used Mozilla Firefox’s downloading manager.
Used Internet Explorer Downloading manager.
I would like to clarify that I have cleared cache/local data before every new download. I have also tried it on my laptops but it kept showing me the same error.
PS: I have a keen interest in purchasing the Pro edition but I am new to unity and game development as whole and hence I would like to make my hands dirty with the free version before I jump into the Pro one.
Where in the world are you located? It could be that the download you are receiving from that server is corrupted, in which case we can contact our content provider and resolve the issue.
In the mean time use the patch release to get started using Unity Download Archive This is hosted by us directly and works. If it turns out you are getting the same error with the patch release, then it’s an issue with your internet connection and there is nothing we can really do about that.
Just FYI, each download has a unique MD5 fingerprint. Patch releases are documented with their md5 hashes. If your md5 hash for the 4.5.5 windows installer does not match the one that Aurore posted your download is not valid.
Alright but I don’t understand why my downloaded file is invalid since I am downloading it from the official site. I have also tried a different ISP today but I got the same result.
Yeah the patch release is working fine. May I ask what’s the differnece between the patch release and the original installer? I do noticed smaller installation size on the path release version.
Patch releases round up bugs that have been fixed each week. So, patch 4.5.5p3 is the third weekly patch from the 4.5.5 official release, and contains all the bugs fixed in 4.5.5p1, 4.5.5p2 and fixes from last week. The Patch Releases page includes release notes that explain what’s been fixed. When we make a 4.5.6 it’ll have all the fixes from the patches in it. So, a different viewpoint is that 4.5.5p3 is an early preview of 4.5.6.
I’ve had Spybot and/or Microsoft’s various protection tools meddle with downloads in that way. Disabled them and things worked. Since I mostly use Steam for any downloads on Windows it was highly unexpected and tricky to track down. Then I remembered I’m a paranoid git.
I am pretty sure that I have no such services running or enabled. Also, this is the first time I am getting this error. And I have also tried downloading the file in multple systems but it returned the same error. I believe the host file is corrupted somehow.
