I personally don’t see what the big deal is here. I have a jailbroken iPhone because I wanted the ability to customize things Apple won’t let you to customize (Springboard, Dialer, etc). I still use the App Store and purchase apps like any self respecting iPhone user (as most of the jailbroken apps are just crap anyway), but now I just have the best of both worlds. I think you may have “jailbroken” confused with “steal apps from the app store”. That is simply just not the case with a large majority of the jailbreaking community.

i’m not against digging in but there’s a difference between developers digging in and the general public. promoting it on a fairly popular tv show is a bad idea.
Actually, the only difference is in how capable they are to handle any possible breakage. Other than that, it’s just the old “whose device is it, yours or Apple?” discussion. It seems that the G4 people fall on the side of “it’s your device”.
As a general practice I advise people to avoid G4 whenever possible.
Not that I agree or disagree with them on the jailbreak topic. That channel has turned to absolute rubbish from where it was years back

Oh, wait… you mean on the G4 network. Knowing them, the show probably sucked the information out of the viewers’ minds rather than adding anything useful.

ok sorry for the bump. you guys missed the point tho. i don’t care if you want to jb your phone. have at it. “developers” in my second post was probably a bad choice of words and probably should have been “people who know what they’re doing.” that was too long to type. anyway, the point was not whether to jb or not. more the impact on those of us trying to sell into the market and a popular tv show promoting a potentially significant problem for us.

But yeah, I see where you’re coming from. There might have been some initial confusion as to whether you were referring to compatibility nightmares or piracy concerns.
