Pretty awesome presentation overall, but I think I became sexually aroused when he mentioned the gyro. :shock:
I hope all these goodies make it onto the next gen iPod.

Not great for game development cause you cut beyond 100M devices but hey, you have to do sacrifices to be cool

A gyro is far more accurate at detecting rotation than an accelerometer. Plus, with an accelerometer, you can’t really detect rotation around the axis of gravity. Meaning your driving game won’t be able to steer intuitively if the player is holding the device so that the back of it is parallel to the ground. Instead, they’ll have to dip the left and right sides of it to steer rather than a traditional steering motion.
With a gyro, it can detect this rotation regardless of device orientation, and far more accurately to boot (much less “noise”). So no need for all kinds of filtering of the input to get rid of the jitters.
Ah, I see, this reminds me how we have to “calibrate” any actual accelero game actually …
