once in 823 years

hear’s a wierd fact: this August will never happen again in history for another 823 years… why ? This is the only August that has 5 sundays, 5 mondays and 5 tuesdays until another 823 years !!!

<< +edit+ >> lol… i read this in the local paper the other day…but i just googled it and seems it is going to happen in 2021 also…ooops …dunno what to say to the local paper here in town now about it

this august is the first august of the rest of our lives!

I have a hard time believing we’ll still be using this stupid month system in 825 years. :wink:

I imagine whatever planet or habitat you’re on will keep track of it’s solar year, but the base time reference will probably still be seconds, i.e. Second - Wikipedia

But by then, we should be able to tweak our experience of time like so:

if (somethingInterestingHappens) {
Time.timeScale = 0.01;
}
else {
Time.timeScale = 10.0;
}

haha… lol … thanks poly for that funny stuff :" if somethinginteresting happens, then time slows down"… sounds true:
if im so busy,
then i didn’t notice the time,
else if, i had so much fun that time flew by,
else if why is this taking so long ?
lol

I just wish it had 5 Fridays, then I would get 3 paychecks. But I have to wait until October for that.

Time is relative to the objects being measured and the quantity you wish to measure them in conjunction with the patterns they assert. The present is fact. The past and future are merely concepts that many advanced creatures can comprehend. :stuck_out_tongue: :lol: At least that is how I view time. Anyhow… lets get back on topic.

That is interesting that its a once in every 823 years. This year we also had 05:06:07 8/9/10.(with the US date format)

EDIT: :sweat_smile: I read your first post so fast I missed the its going to happen again in 2021 or whatever date that was.

freaky stuff makerofgames… merely “patterns”…reminds me of another fact on how the universe is made : with geometry and patterns if you put everything underneath a microscope…then you got the pyramids that work with that idea and oh no im going way off topic of 823 years…lol…anyways, this all ties in with the topic of time …so pyramids are interesting that way in that they use that geometry pattern idea and have created something wierd: scientists have found that greenhouses shaped in pyramid form have plants,etc… growing quicker and better in them than the usual square greenhouses !

I find it interesting that time is thought to be tangible. How would time be measured if you are traveling through space in a spaceship or if the planet was hurtling through a the universe without guidance(of course avoiding other objects in its path). There would be no patterns to measure things. Events would happen and not happen. No patterns. Our universe certainly is full of things to wonder about. :slight_smile: But now that dives into the realms of philosophy, which means I may have strayed too far off topic and I do not mean to do so. I suppose this counts as it still refers to time? If not I am sorry for the diversion.

lol… this is getting nice and different, i think im diving into a black hole here…lol : you said “time is thought to be tangible” …makes me think what does a prophet think of time ? he sees things ahead in the future(time)… does he touch it ? is it real ? then i think that to the prophet, time is not real since it is not there right now …only later on it is really there ! oops …that is just my philosophy… sorry i went into that black hole there …lol

I think the same way as you! Only you’ve just put it in better words than I could!

As MakerOfGames said, past and present (and since it takes time for our brain to process reality, present is nothing more than ‘fresh past’) is just how our minds arrange memories, because or very brains are made of moving particles which obey the rules of physics, and somehow what our eyes see gets saved in our brain cells maintaining order (most of the times, doesn’t it happens to you to remember 2 events from long ago, but you don’t remember which even happened first?) What’s time? We can only rely on clocks to be for sure

People usually think time as something that flows around us and will give age to anything no matter how still it stays, yet there’s no such a thing as old or new if you ask me, just different displays for every particle in the universe. So if something does stay truly still, in a place with no wind, rain, or anything that would erode our object, it will be no different now than 10 million years ago, defeating the purpose of a ‘time’ concept, it’d be just a static piece of reality, until ‘movement’ happens to it.

I am glad I am not alone with this view. I always find it interesting that many notable scientists and physicists beleive that time exists and that there is a possibility to travel it. These ideas do not make sense with the understanding of time being a social construct that was created to help organize predictable patterns of seasons hearvests and daily life. I am curious and need to read more on how they believe it is possible as I would love for a broader knowledge on the subject. However, from my basic application of logic, I fail to see how time truely exists in such manners.

While our measurement of time is a construct, time itself is not.

Concepts such as Entropy show a linear change in the state of the universe. Time is merely talking about a specific sequence, or rate of said sequence.

For example, Light is not instantaneous. It travels a certain distance over time. It’s position will change at a constant measurable interval. This linear change is time. You can try to argue about whether that interval is truly modifiable or reversable (I don’t think it is), but you can’t really argue that the rate is not there. Without the function of time, you lose the idea of a sequence and therefore any sort of linear change.

Yes, in the absence of events, time becomes difficult to measure, however that does not mean that it ceases to exist. Mass cannot be measured in a vacuuum, or on it’s own, but it still exists, and has very real consequences.

Very true! Good points, the measurement of time is all relative to the scale designed. I see the universe as velocity and volume and basic properties of interaction that create the world around us(this was a quick analysis in reference to time, not a full analysis). Time is something like feet and inches. You can only travel it in real space, however, since time is measuring an an arbitrary ideal(distance which is relative), it cannot be traveled as it is more or less a reference. It a tool derived from patterns and velocities to help understand and traverse physical space.

But all units of measurement are relative.

You mention velocity as being as being a basic property, but velocity in and of itself requires time (velocity = distance/time).

Time is not just seconds, but rather the concept of change(all change is measured as x/time).

It seems odd that you consider velocity non relative and fundamental, but distance and time relative and arbitrary, as velocity is distance/time.

The way I see it, all a particle may have is moving energy, and that moving energy is what contains the relativeness (to other particles).

If the moving energy would ever be none, meaning the particle doesn’t move, I don’t see why there should be a flowing time essence that might modify this particle despite it isn’t moving. I’m not trying to defy anything, I know scientist are smarter than me and probably know what’s up, but I do not understand this concept of time as something that ‘happens’ on it’s own.
To me all there is is moving energy, and since our brains cells are composed by moving particles, they store memories accordingly, but in reality this order is just something inside our head. It wouldn’t have any meaning to, say, a rock.

I suppose I should have chosen my words better what I meant to say is motion not velocity. A basic property is motion, whether it is present or not in objects. Whether objects can move or are moving in space. Velocity does involve time. To which I clear that up to saying that at the basic units, you can tell if something is in motion or not, but velocity is also relative.

yeah, time is interesting … scientists have even found out that when your foot touches the ground, your senses tell you after it has been done and not during …they hooked the funny stuff to the person to find that out (wires,cables,etc…)… that being said, everything is just in the mind and we use time to measure things done in a sequence of events … and if we didn’t have anything to measure time, then we would have utter chaos i think … just think : there would be no words like already or done or yesterday or tommorrow or did…and we wouldn’t know when to go to the bar because it is not open or is it ? and let alone the word: when … it would not even exist…and not even the word : would…

as for time travel, i think it would be possible just using the mind since everything is in the mind… all we would have to do is somehow see memories of the past and keep seeing memories from the past in the same order as they happened because that is travelling in time is it not ? and then maybe we could see the future since we can see the past … makes sense does it not ?

<< +edit+ >> i just thought of something…it is called dejaview … ever have that feeling of dejaview like you have been there before ? well then, we can call ourselves time travellers then when dejaview happens because we have been there before … probably in a dream or dream state ?

so weather we like it or not, time is was and will be now
