OnControllerColliderHit - any way to make it trigger on any touch?

What I am seeing (or believe I am seeing) is that the OnControllerColliderHit() callback is only firing when the character is actually obstructed. If the character controller slides or steps over the collision the notification is never sent.

I was trying to use a Character Controller for my projectiles as well and it seems that I am unable to consistently detect impacts as they will sometimes slide around their intended targets.
