One character, multiple suits = multiple animator controllers?

Hello all,

I am in the process of making a simple 2D platformer (but nothing ever really stays simple, does it?).

I have a character who will power up with different suits in-game. I have already set up the code to swap out suits when desired.

But now that I’m adding in the animations (2d sprite sheets), I’m wondering about the best way to do the animations. Each suit will look different physically and jumping, running, and attacking will look different as well, so I will need to create different sprite sheets as well. I was thinking that each suit would have its own animator controller, but was curious if that is the best approach, or if there is a better one.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi, there.

This has been discussed in other threads and there’s a video by Unity about this. Simplest solution is probably just replace the texture of spriteSheet in LateUpdate().
