Open-source alternative to Dropbox on a personal web hosting space

Hi,

I would like to use my web hosting space in order to backup some of my files.
I would like to find an open-source solution that replicates Dropbox’s features (private, public, sharing, gallery view) with a clean interface, hosted on my space.

Questions

  • Does it exist and what would you suggest me to try?
  • Would I have to face security issues or will the open source alternative take care of it? → In Dropbox, is the space secured or the application? I don’t know how it works
  • Will I have to add extra levels of security to… secure the web space?

I think Dropbox is more about the client than the server.

If you google “dropbox open source”, you’ll find tons of links to open source projects and discussions.
