Since this is my first post here let me start by introducing myself, my names Daniel (or Dan) and I’m starting a BRAND-NEW game dev company (no we’re not hiring at the moment) And for our first name we are thinking about an open world zombie survival game. We have ideas for some basic features such as hinger/thirst day night cycle, basic features for a survival game. And we were debating on weather to have a storyline like in games such as Fallout and Skyrim, OR completely 0% storyline oriented like War Z (renmaed Infestation) So I thought who better to ask than the gamers and developers themselves. SO what do you guys think?
yes you should make it
I love zombie games and open world games, too!
But I don’t know a really good zombie game with a really good story.
Dead Island gameplay is cool, but the story sucks so it’s boring after a few hours.
So you should try to combine a crazy zombie game with a nice and original story.
Look at Day Z, one of the biggest online zombie games there is, and there is absolutely 0 story. BUT, personally I find a story much more intruiging. I would consider making sort of an optional story. (similar to skyrim) It’s there if you want to do it, but in no way do you need to do it.
Why don’t you make a game like DeadRising???Not only U can shoot with Guns but also you can attack with any object you like…create what u like…Tavel through shopping malls…troll the zombies…it will be epic…and also add a feature where you can be a zombie and kill the rookies…!!!
Zombie survival blah blah etc is over done.
With the upcoming release of the DayZ standalone version I don’t think that it’s a good idea to start working on a zombie survival game with the main goal to publish it and make a profit of it. This said, it could be a good learning project or something fun to work on while you’re constantly improving the game by adding new features, mechanics, visuals, … and who knows, you guys might get to a point where the game is ready for release?
Anyways, I wish you a lot of luck if you’re going to continue this!
Ignore the trolls!
Tim
Good awesome do it! Guys!
But if you like to make that i’m requesting can you make the game free2play!
If you like can you make it browser base too!
But is ok to me too if you do the game client! :d
If you have nothing constructive to add, don’t add anything at all.
Zombie games are epic but you need to think hard on things that only youre game is gonna have and not Warz or DayZ so that people are gonna look to youre game and say: ‘’ Hey that game got that special thing!‘’ So there wanted to buy it.
Sorry for bad grammer i’m from holland so me englins ins’t that good.
Wouldn’t recommend it to be honest, the zombie fad is getting quite annoying and DayZ’s standalone will be here soon.
Firstly, this game has already been/being made. http://7daystodie.com/
As well as others:
Dead Rising
Dead Rising 2
Dead Rising 3
Dayz
Infested
State of Decay
Dying Light
zomboid
You could try to make a zombie survival game, but in the end no one will care for it because there are already 50 zombie survival game projects. Unless your “company” is 1 in a million (Sorry probably isn’t) I doubt you could even remotely make it good enough to be interesting. Its good to have a dream and a goal, but you’ll need to be more realistic if you want to reach it.
I mean, even if you have the greatest most powerful passion for coffee, if you open your brand new coffee shop next to a Starbucks, caribou coffee and Dunken doughnuts and a McDonald down the street. Chances are, your business is going to run out of funds.
Do realistic game projects and work your way up, start with simple adventure/platform adventure games. Starting out with a zombie survival game is like playing football for the first time in the college league. You see it quite often on these forums, people come with big dreams of huge awesome games, bigger and better than whats out there. If real companies can’t make their games that bigger or better on their budgets and with their professionals than what chance does a start up have?
Granted this is all based on speculation and the assumption that you/your group hasn’t made any other successful projects. So take it as you will and with a grain of skepticism. Just some of my random opinions I’ve been thinking off when browsing the forums.
KILL THEM ALL (ZOMBIE,WALKER,DEAD)
I will agree with some people that it is over done,However it can be done if you do a certain STYLE I don’t know why but if you add a different style to an over done game genre people some how see the game completely differently like with borderlands(great game) its a Fps but because of the cel shading style the players see completely differently.Use different styles like Minecraft,Cel shading,Pixel etc.Add a different FEATURE,something that no over game has to make it better and more unique and make sure other people enjoy the game if not ask them what you could have done differently and then if you think its a good idea go along with it and try do what they said.
Important words are capitals.
Sorry if I was a bit harsh.
No point giving advice as its all negative in the creator’s eyes!
If it was me and I was thinking of creating a game that could take 2 years to produce, then a zombie survival wouldn’t be the first option.
If you’re not sure why that is then create your base concept and put it on green light concepts.
I agree with that, this concept is very overdone. Not that it is impossible to make a fun zombie survival game, but its a pretty tough market there imo.
As for story/no story, first thing here - is to consider your resources. Do you have a writer, animator, narrator(s)/voice actors? If it’s going to be just a wall of text with grammar errors, then might be better off not to waste time on it at all and focus on gameplay.
Generally speaking, there are two reasons to make something similar to what has come before.
The first is because you see some kind of deficiency or missed opportunity in what is already out there, and you have something new to say.
The second is because you like something successful and wish it was yours, with your name on it.
Be sure you understand your motivations.
Go ahead if you have gotten an good idea.
I think, it would be great, when you create a open world zombie game for android (3D). You can’t found any (good) open world Zombie game in the Pay Store. 50% of Dead Island and I think you can sell it by a few euros and very much persons would buy it.
Sry for my very bad english
hey my names kaleb im currently working on a open world zombie game called The Dark the big company’s wont make a open world zombie game so i decided im going to make one for myself. if you wana chat about our titles email me free.kaleb@gmail.com
