with the great help in this forum I’ve finally managed to complete our 1st racing (kinda) game. It just needs a bit more fine tuning, but basically we’re done.
We also implemented OpenFeint, so our users can have leader boards, challenges, etc… and everything works just fine.
Like in every other racing game we have a stop watch and the faster you complete a round, the better. However, this leads me to the following problem: As some of you might know, OpenFeint only accepts integer values as highscore data. At the end of a race, my timer might look like “23:10.44” seconds.
So, what would you suggest highscore wise. Turn “23:10.44” to an integer value, like “231044” and submit that? Even though I can set ranking to descending, I doubt users would understand these numbers.
Maybe use some forumula to create highscore data out of lap times?
I can’t tell you how something like that would work in Open Feint, but I can tell you how we do it in AGON Online.
With AGON, you submit both a score value (integer) and a display string for that score. So for example, in your case, you might submit the number of seconds it took to complete the race as the score value and a display string of e.g “23:10.44” like you mentioned. This way AGON can sort scores internally and your players will see meaningful results. You’d then mark the leaderboard to sort descending and you’d be done.
If you’re interested, we’ve just released a new version of our Unity Basic and Advanced plugins (http://devdb.agon-online.com/developer/dashboard/downloads) as well as a sample game demonstrating a full integration of AGON Online using Javascript in Unity Basic (available from the same page).
Best of luck getting your game completed and submitted!
