i cant open anything and i only have one version of the editor. it doesnt give anyone else issues and its very frustrating trying to open a new project and still being given this

The message basically tells you that your project was created in an older version of Unity and opening it in a newer version requires an upgrade of the project. Pressing Continue should open it in your currently installed Editor version, upgrading it.
Before you do that, however, make sure to create a copy of your project first (e.g. ZIP it), just in case something breaks.

The „before 5.0“ notification can also occur when the project is corrupt. Mainly it is missing either the ProjectSettings folder or the ProjectVersion.txt inside that folder. Is this project under source control? If so make sure it is fully synched and that all required files like the above are checked into source control.
