Opinions on first level?

Hi all,

I am currently working on a simple game, and am doing my first level for it…it is a medieval style town in a hilly area. I would be happy to take any opinions and or criticisms on what you all think! Thanks!

This is still a work in progress, so I am open to all suggestions!

Also i am really wanting to become a level creator/designer…if any of you have any tips on what i should o…I will be heppy to hear them. Thanks!

Looking like a great start!

I would suggest;

  • add in a skybox
  • Add a few environmental objects IE fences, bushes, plants etc - these kind of things help make a scene look a little more realistic.

Ok thanks!

yes i really should add skybox lol, and I am planning on putting in more bushes etc. But first I am going to get all of the buildings down and mapped out, and then put all the small details in …Thanks!

Another tip would be to actually get a player character - doesnt have to be a finished character just the FPS controller so you can actually move around the map and see what works and what might need changing

Yes I have the third person controller in the game already, i just didn’t show it with the character as i wanted to show off more of the scenery

Are you a 3D artist or a programmer?

Well I have been programming for around two years, and have just started doing games development 2 weeks ago…and have really enjoyed creating the scene.

Looks nice man. Are you planning on adding shadows to the buildings? They look pretty dark for the surrounding environment. But still, looks nice  Has a very “wild west” layout.

I would suggest you implement some modular geometry to your game, for example the street. It looks better, and is much easier to edit later on.

You’re new as is were we all start at this

The terrain mountains is rather simplistic looking and the texturing of them is not much better, Do it again! then again.

drop in a directional light thought you already have one, adjust the color range, adjust the ambient level light also. try dropping in a few lanterns on the road and lighting of the front of the building’s and then adjust for effect, If you find blotchy-ness in the lights then play around with isolating them into separate layers then have the main camera show all or some of the layers depending on the needs like multiply camera’s. Lighting takes oodles of tweaking but will bring the environment alive.

Nice Start !

PS Lighting and the use of color composition is what i’m thinking of with level design.
