Good day, here is the simple request to Unity team. Guys please make available dark theme for community users, because almost all Unity devs sit in front of PC with Light Theme for 8+ hours minimum. Also very important thing, when we use 24"+ monitors with Light Theme and C# IDE with dark them(i think too many ppl use dark), during ATL+TAB(or sight change on second monitor) it really hurts eyes. And during 8+ hours work time every day our eyes are being damaged because of light/dark quick changes.
So please Unity team consider to allow Dark Theme in 2020.1.
Guys who is agree with me please keep this thread up.
People love to throw out statements like this to try to add weight to their request, but there has been evidence for years now that this may not be true as well as evidence that dark text on a light background is easier to read than light text on a dark background. There may be situations where it applies but they’re almost always for people with existing vision problems.
Regardless of which one is true though keep in mind at the end of the day the only people qualified to say whether our eyes are being damaged are actual eye doctors. Just because we read somewhere doesn’t mean we necessarily know any better one way or the other.
If you don’t have enough light in your environment, dark looks have an ever so slight advantage, but really, the actual solution is to have more light in your environment.
so you just against of the idea or what??
Also when you repeatedly switching from light to dark, you shouldnt be a doctor to feel the discomfort for the eyes(which is kind of a damage)…
Like @AcidArrow said I’m not against the idea of releasing the dark skin to everyone. Unity’s own employees have even said that they feel it should be released to everyone.
What I am saying is just because you think you’re damaging your eyes doesn’t mean you’re actually damaging them. By your logic you are damaging them by entering and exiting a building. By waking up in the morning and opening your eyes. And so on. It’s nonsensical. Just experiencing discomfort doesn’t mean anything at all.
The light theme in 2019+ is alot worse than it was previously… they removed any sense of gradient, depth and bevel from the ui and separation cues of element groups etc… its eyesore of filthy flat design. Which only makes the darker theme look better despite still being of the same crappy flat design aswel.
Saying that it wouldn’t surprise if someone at Unity knows this and its by design to push subs for plus.
It does not cause remotely cause eye damage. Moreover this discussion has been had many times before. Please use search feature before creating new threads like this. Closing.
