Our First Mobile Ready Asset Preview

When starting this asset we wanted to create something with the visual quality we always go for but would run smooth on mobile.
As we have never done a completely mobile ready asset it was quite a tricky task

Now two days in and we have something we are happy to show.

We baked in ambient occlusion and normal’s into the main HQ texture of the models and hey presto
we had quality and performance.

This package is set to include around 250 Assets for $40

Here a an early sneak preview of a few of the assets with stats.

for mobile device? 13k house + some props?

This scene was made up just for an early preview.

This asset we will be aiming for a maximum of 50-60k max on screen at any one point as 100k is about max for mobile
we will be able to get the quality we want.
This asset for top down scene creation.

But like i said this is an early preview so this is still very much a work in progress. :slight_smile:

But if there are such details into the 3D props, it means there will be same level of details on characters in the same scene, right?
Don’t you think it could be a little bit huge for the device? :frowning:

Like i said this we have only ever modeled for faster platforms and this is a work in progress.

we are not new to modeling we have been doing it for many years and poly reduction is not new to us
so i hope you can understand that we can make it lower poly without loosing detail.

And if you think about it a character model for mobile is around 700-1000 tris.
with a good baked in normal map from a top down view the characters would look good and with the scene using lets say 50k out of the 100k available to a mobile CPU/GPU
that would leave enough tris available for skinned character meshes.

but as i say it is a work in progress.

Also you didn’t even ask what mobile chip set we will be targeting

I mean i think you are under estimating how far the mobile platform has come within the last year or so.

To be fair i’m not going to say this will work on a iPod touch 4g but with the boost in android sales and the TEGRA 4 chip to be released i would be happy to say we will get smooth results on a TEGRA 3 maybe even TEGRA 2 devises.

I have started poly reduction on this asset. so far i have saved 4.4k of tris.
I have still yet to do Wagon/House/shrooms/Well so can still save a lot more :slight_smile:
