Painting in GIMP

I’m planning a series of tutorials on Painting in GIMP for people new to digital painting. First ones will be on YouTube. Subscribe here or on YouTube or my mailing list on my website if you’re interested. Topics will probably be

  1. Select and Fill on Layers
  2. Gradients
  3. Paintbrush, pencil, et al
  4. Transform tools
  5. Color and value
  6. Color tools
  7. Custom brushes
  8. Composition

Each tutorial will be about 10 minutes, so not a great deal of depth, but enough to get anyone started. I won’t be covering particular subjects (such as painting a character), just introducing the tools and concepts.

I’ve been giving this more thought, and am wondering if I should produce a much more comprehensive guide to using GIMP, almost a manual. I usually try to teach only what is needed, but in the case of GIMP there really isn’t much documentation available. Of course that kind of thing is very dry and boring, so I hope to get some idea of demand before spending much time on it. Of course I could just make the first couple of videos and see how many hits they get on YouTube before making any more. Demand driven.

I’ve made a start on this. I’ve decided to do a basic series first and maybe leave the comprehensive manual for GIMP 3.0. See my website or YouTube channel.
