Parent Issues... Spent roughly 72 hours on this issue.

I’ve asked 2 places, spent hours trying to solve it on my own.

Blender 2.70a;

I built a much better rig than my first, got 8 working parented items that barely tear into my characters skin in extreme poses finally. Now I have nothing to parent to on the head, is there anyway to add something more reliable to the head? I’ve asked 2 places 100 views no replies.

I could still use help creating weighting for the parented pieces or force-fields so the skin doesn’t go through them? Doesn’t seem to be much on parented characters out there in blender, usually everything is one solid mesh.

I’m trying as hard as I can to retain my parented pieces so I can swap them out for other sets of gear.

Thank you, please any help you can give I just need anything having a really rough time on this keep going on to other areas of the game then back to this…

Not sure if I understand what you are trying to do. Are you asking the best method for character customization?

No I just want to have the hair parented to the head and not have it move all over the place. When I move the head even though the hair is parented to the top head bone the hair moves at a different angle, I don’t have the Orb looking bone in the head like I do in the legs from rigify, which works really well for parented items. I know people are doing it but I don’t see it very often, looks like most people make a solid mesh when animating with blender, minus cloth. / particle systems.

Try keeping the ‘hair’ bones separate from the character bones (or once you join meshes maybe that’s not so important but it’s not usual) and joining the hair mesh with the character mesh (select character mesh hair mesh then CTL-J unless memory fails), unless you will be customizing hair choices in Unity and have multiple hair available, then you want to keep meshes separate.

I want multiple choices eventually, temporarily I tried that fix and it doesn’t join, It does in the outliner with drag n drop but it still stays stationary doesn’t move with the head unless it’s on a bone
