Park Model Pack (WIP)

Here are a few models that will be included in a park model pack. None are textured as you can see and I am looking for a texture artist if anyone knows of one.

Poly Count = 1156

Poly count = 788

Poly count = 1156

Poly count = 1948 (this one still needs some work done.)

Please give me some reviews as I could really use some. Also I am still available for hire. Thanks!

I think too high poly you could use normal maps for holes between planks.

Ok ill fix that then. What poly count should I aim for?

It depends, I don’t think they are too high poly although that would depend on what they were going to be used for… A game that is single player on PC they should be fine but an online game or an iphone game on the other hand they will need to be optimized allot more… But at the same time they could easily be allot less polies!

Nice work they look pretty good but are you going to unwrap them?

I think what I can do (because it should be fairly simple) is reduce the poly count and add normal maps as well as keep the higher poly one. We’ll see how it looks.

By Unwrap them you mean uv map them?
I could unwrap them in Cinema 4d but the process of UV mapping is fairly hard for me to understand and I might just wait till I can find someone to uv map them for me. But if all else fails ill uv map them myself.

There way to hight poly, you dont have to aim for any particular poly count, just try and optimize as much as you can. If these are for a next gen game they will for sure need normal’s on them, which will add most of the detail, if there for an iPhone game or a more cartoony game you shroud paint in a lot of the details in the textures instead of trying to model them in. Your really guna want to learn to texture bro, its near impossible to get hired, or make any sort of game as a 3D artist if you dont have decent texturing skills.

Well ill paint most of them in.

As for texturing I have textured a lot of models before so I know the process. But when it comes to be more complex models I get pretty confused. I use BodyPaint 3d

Could we see the wire-frame views of these models? The polygon counts seem quite high indeed. The second image down (the bench) appears to be made of boxes which based on what I see would be around 48 polygons and yet it’s listed as 788 polygons. I’m not sure where all that extra geometry is coming from.

The bench has supports on the back which make curves so thats where the polys are coming from. But here are the wireframes.

Just looking at your model I can see that round hole in the last table is not triangulated.
You need to triangulate your models and then show us the wireframe of triangulate models.

But yeh, you don’t really need to model every piece. Especially when gaps are so small you can just texture it.

With all due respect, these are no were near complex models, all of the models here are made of just boxs, Learning to Unwrap and texture properly is very important. also on the bench it looks to me like we got some polys with over 4 sides, big no no.

if been looking at your models, most of them are just cubes with a boolean tool and some ambient occlusion, try some more complicated shapes, and also reduce the poly count

and with hire, do u want money or do u work for free? becouse i don’t think your work is good enough to start working for $

Everything i can see there could be done with 3 cubes and a cylinder.

+1
Take a single polygon, select one of the edges, and hold shift and drag… “A WHOLE NEW WOOOOOOORRRRRLLLD!”

Yeh, that last table seems problematic - you have piece that seems to be inverted or gap not filled (look at the piece that supports the seating - one of them is solid while the other piece is hollow). Also that bench chair in the second pic too (that curved back support piece seems to be pretty high poly if you triangulate that).

I don’t think the models are bad, it is simplistic I agree, but at least he keeps it pretty proportional to the real thing. Which is a plus.

Appreciate the reviews guys. I do this for free. I’m in the Marine Corps so this is just a hobby of mine. I work on reducing the poly count on the models and let you guys know when there done. As for these models being “complex” They are complex for me. Im used to doing crates with only 12 -24 faces so its a bit different for me. As I said this is just a hobby but ill work on em.

Well I done see how a hexegon table could be built with three cubes and a table but ok…

I use a program called Google Sketchup and Im still learning how to use it.

Although Sketchup can be fairly easy to learn to create objects it does tend to add a lot of additional geometry then needed and doesn’t really offer many ways to really reduce a model to a game ready state. I’m not saying it’s impossible with Sketchup, but from what I’ve learned it’s not really the best choice for creating optimized real time game models.

Learn Maya or 3ds Max.

I think that you dont understand what im talking about because you are using sketch up while the rest of the guys here use 3dsmax, blender and maya.for the table you could use the 6 sided cylinder which would give you same effect and 12 polys wich is very low and you table would have around 300-500polys when completed. So if its your hobby use free software like blender and wings3d.

If you like Sketchup, you probably will like Wings 3D (http://www.wings3d.com) which is OpenSource and completely FREE. Its strictly a modeler, and a better modeler than Sketchup in my opinion. SketchUp is more gear towards “massing”/building type of models and it usually has problems triangulating and converting to other game formats (usually missing some faces/polygons) and its especially not suited for more organic/non-rectangular type modeling.

Of course if you got time (You are in the marine! Plenty time to kill! (no pun intended!) … you could always pick up Blender (http://www.blender.org) which is full blown Open Source 3D program. There is also trueSpace (http://www.caligari.com) which was my personal favorite and worth checking out, but it is dead now (its not getting updated) since Microsoft shut it down 2 years ago.
