It seems something fundamental has changed, originally when I would drop a PS on the scene I would get the default shader and the default particle image.
Now, it emits pink squares and I can’t seem to find out how to set the particle?
Any ideas?

Broken perhaps?
Under the particle system click the renderer tab to open it, check the material slot if it says none click the circle on the material tab and choose the Default Particle Material and then it will work right.
