Particles fade from color to transparent, want to fade to black instead

Preview image given, at the end of the particles lifetime. It fades to transparent, when I want it to fade to black under the “Color over Lifetime” property. The source texture image is a smoke decal with a transparent background .png file.

What settings would I need to adjust to make this happen?

Change the smoke material Rendering mode to Alpha Blended.
