I feel I’m trying to hard to do this, but I can never get a pause menu to look right. I can get the options in it working great. That’s no problem, I just can’t exactly get it to look visually appealing. Anyone have some tips to practice drawing out the visual value of your pause screen ?
Think a Borderlands type FPS. I’ve been working on it a bit and it’s coming along pretty well. My exp system is set up like the game fable. So I’ve been trying to get a replication of Fable TLC menus and such, but I feel it’s not working visual wise. I guess it’s really a guessing game if you have no predetermined plan for style. It’s cartoonish so I’ll look at those types of games for inspiration.
In my game I have the game blurred out to stop the thing becoming a focal mess, i think it works quite well personally
Nice, at the moment I have an ugly menu with the a dark transparent UI covering the back to kinda make it faded. Though the blur kinda gives me an idea.
Animations improve everything, unless the animations are crappy.
There was once a game that had bugs crawling across the screen randomly, I can’t remember which one, but it was an interesting take on pause menus.
